The concept of the ELEMENTALS is something that we will be talking about quite a bit in the future, but for now, here's a casual shot of our performers (Margot Stothers accepted who was on her way to Montreal at this point) immediately after being invited to join the cast by Bernard Hopkins himself. (*left to right: Ryan Collins, Marshall Lemon, Michael Rooyakkers, Aimee O'Beirn, Colt Forgrave, Steve Stockwell, Jason Sousa)
Just two days ago, our Director completed a first act revision that will soon be posted here online. Most of the changes involve simple cuts (this play was 5 acts and roughly four and a half hours long originally remember), but some additional, subtle changes to the dialogue have also been made to better suit his particular vision. His work continues and we will let you know when a complete draft is available.
Over the past eight weeks, and through two rounds of open auditions, women from all over Southwestern Ontario came in to read for Bernard Hopkins in hopes of being offered the opportunity to play one of the greatest female characters ever written. Although some were very green, many had just finished years of considerable training and knew the play quite intimately. It was an incredible process and a difficult choice. In the end it was a local performer that our director felt had just the right qualities to help him create the magic required to bring this iconic character to life. click through to FIND OUT WHO!
Here's the cast list of the ELEMENTALS. In this production, the ELEMENTALS will have a very special assignment, playing all of the supporting characters from the script, but also as 'shadows' to the principal (or ARCHETYPE) performers.
Here's the final cast list of the ARCHETYPE players in alphabetical order by Character name.
A particularly nasty series of malware ads (the banner ads that help pay for this very capable, yet free website template) have created a some serious problems for us and for some visitors of this site. If you are a Mac user and especially if you run Firefox, know that you may have trouble navigating. WETPAINT (our hosts) are working on it, but for a quick fix, I recommend loading the AdBlock Plus program. It will stop the ads from appearing at all, and ALMOST totally fix the problem. (Not for our editor who's sadly not able to post new articles properly) AdBlock Plus can be downloaded here for free: Even if you are not having this problem, AdBlock Plus will visually clean up the site and eliminate most suspicious or annoying pop-ups and banner ads on any other site that you visit. Highly recommended.
Placing this story in the 1930's has proven a surprisingly good fit! CARIOLA costume concept page ANTONIO costume concept page FERDINAND costume concept page THE CARDINAL costume concept page JULIA costume concept page (Not yet)
This is the fun part for sure. However, there is an enormous amount of work to be done and it's early. At this point these concepts are merely supposed to give us a stepping off point that will inspire our actual costumiers to design the final, fantastic costumes. That said, here are some early ideas for three of our eight main characters. Bosola Costume Concept Page Delio Costume Concept Page The Duchess Costume Concept Page
And there is so much more content on the way! We've just moved things around a little again in order to make the site easier to navigate. The "News" column is now right here on the first page so everyone knows what's going on as it happens. Hopefully you won't miss anything now, no matter how small the event. (If we remember to post it here of course!) A ton of brand new content will be added shortly and we will need to constantly reevaluate the entire site to make sure everything will fit and make sense to visitors who may be dropping in for the very first time! Anyhoo, we hope it's better. And we hope you like what's coming just around the corner too More very soon!
When we mapped this production out a few months ago, we knew it was going to be a ton of work. Al of these shows are. Additionally the effort invested in trying to capture the whole thing on film is substantial to say the least and although we were more than willing to jump in and make it all happen anyway, we certainly couldn't forsee the events of the past few weeks. To everyone who has sent us words of support and encouragement, to everyone so far involved who have been so very patient with us, thank you very much. Our goal is still the same: To make this experience as wonderful for all involved as is possible and to create something we can all be proud of for a very long time. And it's good to be back at it.
We've just sent out the notices to everyone who had contacted the project and requested an opportunity to audition for round 2. Round 2 will happen August 21 and 22. This time, due to Mr. Hopkins ongoing recovery, we've chosen to hold the auditions at his home in Wortley Village. Following the round 2 auditions, we will be making decisions very quickly. There will be a short but critical period spent reassessing every single actor seen during both rounds and then we will immediately organize our first call back / workshop. We will assemble a group of actors to gauge how well each person works within a group dynamic and also how well each actor works within the context of a potential cast. These workshops will be dynamite and everyone is really excited to get there as soon as possible. We do not know how many we will do, but following the week of the 21st, we will let everyone know when the first one will happen. STAY TUNED!
I'm really enjoying these interviews and look forward to several more over the next few months. I learned a ton about the History of not only the Palace Theatre building, but the London Community Players and just why they operate the way they do. It was fascinating to hear David talk about LCP's interpretation of what community Theatre is and how they feel they can best support and encourage it. It was also fun to hear David talk about why he's so excited that Bernard Hopkins is a part of the 2010 LCP season and why our "The Duchess of Malfi" production, although challenging (and perhaps much more so that some of their subscribers may want), will be very good for everyone in the end. (*We think so too!) I hope to share snippets of this with you all very soon. Our thanks to David Long for his participation and willingness to give us so much time. We appreciate it! Our Director and creative Captain, Mr. Bernard Hopkins has suffered the devastating loss of his partner and dearest friend of almost 50 years. Subsequently, he was hospitalized for stress-related complications, but is now resting comfortably back at home. Understandably Mr. Hopkins needs a little more time and respectful distance from everyone before rejoining our project and getting on with life. David William, actor, director, and theatre scholar died suddenly July 28 of injuries sustained in a fall. He was 84. Among his many other achievements, David had been Artistic Director of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival from 1990 to 1993. Our thoughts, love and support are with Mr. Hopkins and the friends and family of Mr. Williams through this very difficult time.
Tragically, 13 days after the first recorded interview and two days before the second scheduled interview, Mr. William died suddenly. With the support and help of friends and family of Mr. Williams, Jordan continues to work on the site in hopes that it will someday become a meeting place of those touched by this very gifted man. It is still very much under construction, but please feel free to visit, share the address with others and bookmark it so that you can return in future. It is full of photographs, quotes, theatre programs, personal letters and many other fascinating artifacts from this man's life. We hope everyone who knew David will enjoy revisiting the many memories found there. The David William Website
First, Rob participated in the IMODON CHALK FESTIVAL. Artists from all over gather to create chalk paintings on the streets of London. Rob captivated the passers by with his portrait of an elderly nun. Then, the following week, Rob had his very first gallery exhibition of painting and photographic works at London's Arts Project on Dundas Street. The exhibition was called "There Is No Spoon" and runs until August 14. Please go check it out! More pics to come! |
